Most of the recent NFL labor news has created a cautious optimism among journalists, fans, and even players and owners that a deal can be reached in the coming weeks. But if snags arise and tempers flare, an agreement could be put in jeopardy … which would mean a delay or complete cancellation of the New Orleans Saints 2011 season.
As the NFL and its players move toward a potential labor agreement it’s looking more and more like unrestricted free agency will be granted after four years, rather than the six it was in 2010.
They talked about his value to the Saints and whether his contract would be easy to restructure. It all made sense, but a quote about Bush’s trade value caught our eye. The deal maker estimated Bush could get a “firm fourth-round pick that could go to a conditional three’’ in a trade.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith met for labor talks on Tuesday without players or owners present, then flew to Florida together to speak to rookies after opening four days of labor talks in Minnesota.
For the New Orleans Saints that is devastating news as some very big players will be unrestricted free agents, making it significantly harder to try and re-sign key individuals. That would include Roman Harper (5 years), Jermon Bushrod (4 years), David Thomas (5 years), Scott Shanle (6 years) and Lance Moore (5 years).
