Kellen Moore was brought in by the New Orleans Saints after winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as their offensive coordinator. Before his time in Philadelphia, he served the same role with the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers, in his previous stints.
The Saints have been on a four year playoff drought and finished the 2024 season 5-12. The Saints brought Kellen Moore in to turn things around, but one writer believes that won't be happening anytime soon.
Bleacher Report believes Kellen Moore is in the worst situation possible
Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski ranked the seven new head coaches based on the possibility of success in year 1 and the Saints head coach ranked dead last. Sobleski believes that Moore went from the best possible situaation to the absolute worst.
Sobleski's ranking is heavily impacted by what Moore is stepping into. "Moore left the best situation in football for the worst. Currently, the Saints have the longest betting odds to win a championship entering the 2025 campaign. Their roster is generally viewed as the league's worst as well," Sobleski wrote.
Let's not forget, the Saints got off to a red hot 2-0 start before a plague of injuries caused their season meltdown. They are essentially retaining the same roster from last season, and at this point, it feels like analysts are just picking on the Saints, the Saints finished with more wins over 3 of the teams on the list. Kellen Moore deserves much more respect than he's received this offseason, for crying out loud he's a reigning Super Bowl champion!
Moore ranking last among new head coaches in Year 1 doesn't rule out later success. In addition to the Saints roster woes, Sobleski wrote "they're now playing for a first-time head coach at any level. This sets up for a long-term rebuilding project, not instant winning."
The Saints will take that. There being a year to adjust as a roster and for Moore as a coach is understandable and acceptable, especially if it is followed by more consistency.
