The New Orleans Saints are 64 days away from their first game of the year against the Arizona Cardinals. As we continue our countdown to kickoff, we're going deep into our bag for the play of the day.

Kevin White's 64-yard catch and run is our play of the day. The play didn't happen that long ago. It was actually the last time the Saints played the Cardinals. That's the same game where Dennis Allen infamously said his halftime message to Andy Dalton was to keep doing what he was doing after two first half pick sixes.

Allen's message is probably the most memorable moment of that game, but White's reception also happened that week. White took a pass from Dalton and ran across the field and tightroped along the sidelined before being taken down 64 yards later. That was one of just three catches White made in black and gold.

2022 was a strange year for the New Orleans Saints receiving corps

Kevin White getting an inclusion in the countdown to kickoff tells you exactly what kind of year 2022 was. The truth of the matter is if Kevin White is making big plays for you in 2022, that means something went wrong at the top of your depth chart. The Saints bringing in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed during that draft cycle paid off for the future. The year itself, however, did not go as planned.

Michael Thomas came back from injury but only lasted three games. This injury thrust Olave into the lead receiver role, which he handled. There were more injuries in the room, however, that weren’t as easily replaceable.

The Saints also brought in Jarvis Landry that offseason in hopes of forming a dangerous receiving triumvirate. Landry also succumbed to injuries and couldn’t be a consistent factor.

Injuries pushed players like Kevin White into the lineup. He didn’t have staying power, but he was able to achieve the longest catch of his career. It was certainly the highlight of his two years in New Orleans.
