Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is currently in New Orleans, as Philly prepares for Super Bowl 59 against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Regardless of the outcome of the game, Moore is expected to stick around in New Orleans, and meet again with the New Orleans Saints for their head coach opening.

Multiple reports have said that barring a setback, Moore will be the next head coach of the Saints. With that news circulating, the Saints were a huge topic during Moore’s media availability on Monday. While he made it clear that his focus was on Sunday’s game, he did answer some things about the New Orleans franchise.

One of those questions were about Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr, who Moore played in college and could soon be coaching. The young offensive coordinator said that he’s known Carr for a long time, and that he has a ton of respect for him as a quarterback in this league. He concluded his statement by saying Carr has done a lot of really good things throughout his career.

Moore’s thoughts on Carr are important, because it was previously reported by Dianna Rusinni that Moore wasn’t all that thrilled about the Saints opening, because of the quarterback situation. However, per the same report, Moore has since come around on the idea of landing in New Orleans.

There’s no way Moore was going to come out and dunk on Carr; he’s already equipped with coach speak. If he is ultimately hired by the Saints, though, he and the franchise must decide if they’re going to move forward with Carr at quarterback. With massive cap hits for the final two years of his contract, the Saints could be motivated to move on, especially since Carr hasn’t led the team to much success.

If that happens, though, New Orleans must have a plan for what’s next. Will the franchise pair a rookie QB with Kellen Moore, or will Spencer Rattler get the keys to the offense? The Saints could also repeat the cycle and sign another veteran quarterback. Before any of that can be decided, New Orleans has to secure Kellen Moore.
