The New Orleans Saints haven’t hired a new head coach yet, but all signs point to Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore being the guy. If he is officially hired by the team, one of his first orders of business will be figuring out the quarterback situation in New Orleans.

It has already been reported that Moore wasn’t initially thrilled about the Saints’ opening, because of the team’s quarterback position, but he has since come around on the idea of being hired in New Orleans. However, nothing has changed with the quarterback room. Derek Carr is still under contract for two more, high-paid years, and Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are also under contract.

In the offseason, though, anything could happen— especially with a new head coach. One approach the Saints could take to addressing the quarterback room is drafting a quarterback. With the ninth-overall pick, New Orleans isn’t in position to select one of the top prospects, but the team could still land a quality QB at the top of the second round.

When news broke that Kellen Moore will likely end up in New Orleans, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky immediately named a QB prospect the Saints should pair with him. He took to social media to say that Kyle McCord and Moore seem like a strong fit.

Should Saints draft Kyle McCord?

McCord is considered one of the better quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. After three years at Ohio State, he transferred to Syracuse in 2024 and had a great year. He completed 66% of his passes for an FBS-leading 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for three additional touchdowns.

Most draft analysts have McCord as the fifth-best quarterback prospect in the draft, and expect him to go on day two, or early day three of the draft. Selecting a quarterback in that range would make sense for the Saints. Orlovsky didn’t expound on why he thinks McCord is strong fit for Moore, but he could see something that New Orleans may see as well. If that’s the case, the Saints could be selecting their third quarterback in a third-straight draft.
