Alvin Kamara named NFC Player of the Week after elite performance against Cowboys
No surprise, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2. The star running back led New Orleans to a 44-19 win on the road over the Dallas Cowboys with four total touchdowns. The league recognized him for this dominant performance, highlighting him as one of six players of the week.
The other players receiving Player of the Week honors are Buffalo Bills running James Cook back for offense in the AFC, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby for defense in the AFC, and Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates as Crosby’s NFC counterpart. For special teams, Houston Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn was honored in the AFC, and Washington Commanders kicker Austin Seibert in the NFC.

In Week 2, Kamara carried the ball 20 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns, averaging an impressive 5.8 yards a carry. He also caught two passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. This is his third Player of the Week Award, and his first since Week 7 of 2021. The game against Dallas was also Kamara’s first 100-yard rushing day since Week 18 of the 2022 season.
Entering the year, some critics argued Kamara was on the decline and past his best days. However, that narrraive was fueled by a dip in production due to how he was used by the team last season. Anyone who watched the Saints closely saw that Kamara was still elite, and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is helping the rest of the world remember.
Kubiak warned everyone that he’d load up Kamara’s plate this season and that’s exactly what he’s doing. As Kubiak, Kamara, and the Saints prepare to take on a Philadelphia Eagles team with a struggling run defense, Kamara could be eyeing back-to-back Player of the Week awards.
