Manti Te'o tells funny Alvin Kamara story as he implores the Saints to use him right
Former NFL linebacker Manti Te'o spent three seasons of his eight-year NFL career with the New Orleans Saints. While with the team, he was apart of three playoff runs, and got to play alongside some all-time great players. Among those players was running back Alvin Kamara, who Te'o recently revealed he knew would be special from day one.
Now working as a host on NFL Network’s 'Good Morning Football,' Te'o told the story of his first encounter with Kamara that let him know the running back would be special. During the 2017 season, Te'o’s first year with New Orleans, and Kamara’s first year in the league, the two were matched up in a one-on-one passing drill.
With a physical demonstration, the retried linebacker detailed how a Young Kamara turned him in circles and made him look silly during the rep. From that moment, Te'o knew Kamara was well on his way to accomplishing everything he has.
After this anecdote, Te'o expressed how much he wants to see Kamara being used the right way by the Saints, saying he hopes the team isn’t just using him to block like they did last season. He drove home his point by saying that’s the worst way to use Kamara, and that’s not why he’ll enter the Hall of Fame— he needs the ball in his hands.
Manti Te'o wants the Saints to feed Alvin Kamara
Te'o has the same desire as Saints fans; everyone wants to see Kamara used better, as he’s one of the most talented running backs in the NFL. In 2023, he had the least productive season of his career. Playing in only 13 games, Kamara carried the ball 180 times for 694 yards and five touchdowns, while adding 75 receptions for 466 yards and one additional touchdown.
Fortunately for Kamara, Manti Te'o, and anyone hoping to see Kamara used more, New Orleans now has an offensive coordinator that is committed to running the ball. Since joining the Saints, Klint Kubiak has let it be known he wants the offense to be built around the rushing attack. Kubiak has even expressed how impressed he is with Kamara and how he’s excited to load his plate up.
If the veteran running back can stay healthy, and the offensive line can be a consistent run-blocking unit, Manti Te'o, and everyone else, will see a special season from Alvin Kamara.
