Klint Kubiak even more excited for Saints offense after getting to know Alvin Kamara
Anyone who has paid attention to the NFL over the last decade knows that the New Orleans Saints have one of the most talented running backs in the league in Alvin Kamara. Since entering the league with the Saints back in 2017, Kamara has dominated on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield. He started his career by going to five straight Pro Bowls.
Klint Kubiak was obviously well aware of this when he accepted the role of offensive coordinator in New Orleans. Coming over from the San Francisco 49ers, Kubiak understands how an offense can function when built around an elite running back; he was apart of it with Christian McCaffrey. However, Kubiak has already learned that observing Kamara from afar doesn’t do justice to how special the running back is.
Speaking with the media during rookie minicamp, Kubiak explained that it’s going to be fun to work with Kamara, and that the two have already started to build a rapport. The offensive coordinator said that Kamara had been in his office multiple times to talk football, and Kubiak learned from those conversations how smart Kamara is as a player. As a result, Kubiak says, “It'll be fun to load his plate up.”

Viewing these comments alongside Kubiak’s other comments about wanting to build the offense around a strong run game, and it’s clear that Saints fans should get ready for a lot of Alvin Kamara. Whether it be in the run game or the pass game, it seems clear that Kamara will be a big piece in Kubiak’s offense. Saints fans know that’s a good thing.
What Kubiak is learning about Kamara is what New Orleans already knew: his football IQ matches his physical abilities. Kamara’s mind has frequently been raved about during his time with the Saints. Now, Kubiak is preparing to put Kamara’s mind and on-field abilities to use.
This is exactly what Saints fans were hoping for, with Kamara coming off the least productive season of his career. Playing in just 13 games, Kamara carried the ball 180 times for 694 yards and five touchdowns, while catching 75 passes for 466 yards and another touchdown. The dip in production had a lot to do with the offensive line and how Kamara was utilized. With Kubiak now in charge, he’ll be planning to get Kamara back to his best days.
