The New Orleans Saints recently welcomed Kendre Miller back to the practice field. The second-year running back had been sidelined since he suffered a hamstring injury on the first day of training camp. Now, he’s practicing, and has a chance to be activated to the active roster at any point in the next few weeks.

This is exciting news for New Orleans and its fans, as Miller was considered one of the most promising players coming into the season. As a rookie last year, he played in eight games, carrying the ball 41 times for 156 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 10 passes for 117 yards.

While the numbers are limited, they represented what Miller could be in this league. Unfortunately, injuries have gotten in his way. Now healthy, he can tap into his promise.

One person that should benefit from Miller returning is starting running back Alvin Kamara. Currently putting together the best season of his career, Kamara is already banged up, and has a long season ahead of him. A healthy Miller could help carry the load.

Kendre Miller could help keep Alvin Kamara fresh

After four games, Kamara already has 80 carries for 362 yards and five touchdowns, as well as 17 receptions for 174 yards and another touchdown. On pace for the best season of his career, he also already has broken ribs. For him to be his best throughout the season, New Orleans has to keep him relatively healthy.

Taysom Hill has gotten a lot of carries (14) when he’s been on the field, but he has been dealing with his own injuries. Jamaal Williams also has 23 carries on the season.

If Miller can remain healthy, and deliver on the potential that everyone sees in him, Alvin Kamara may not have to touch the ball 24 times a game for New Orleans to have a chance to win.
