Jamaal Williams explains how Saints players reacted to Alvin Kamara leaving minicamp
On the final day of mandatory minicamp for the New Orleans Saints, star running back Alvin Kamara left before the start of practice, and his agent immediately made it clear that the departure was contract related. Of course, this became a dramatic story for fans and media members to follow, but it’s a bit more serious of situation for the people close to it.
That includes all of Kamara’s Saints teammates. One of those teammates, fellow running back Jamaal Williams, recently appeared on NFL Network’s The Insiders, and was asked how he and the team felt about Kamara’s departure and contract situation as a whole. Williams explained that Kamara has all of his support. He understands that Alvin Kamara is standing on business and doing what’s best for him, and Williams said he can’t fault him for that.
As for how the team reacted, Williams said that everyone is just focused on their own responsibilities. The players that were present were focusing on how they can be better, and letting everything else work itself out.
Jamaal Williams makes it clear that Alvin Kamara has his support
This is typically how players approach contract situations with their teammates. Everyone understands the business of the NFL, and they also understand that they could be in the exact situation. For that reason, players usually sit back and let players going through contract situations take care of their business.
The outcome of the Kamara situation could affect Jamaal Williams a lot. For starters, he’s a running back, so whatever happens with Kamara could impact the running back market in general. Additionally, if Kamara does hold out, or is traded, Williams will be the next man up. Entering his second season with the Saints, after a year where he was underused, he’s hoping for a bounce-back season with Klint Kubiak. The bounce back could be even bigger than he imagined, depending on what happens with Alvin Kamara and the Saints.
