New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen doesn’t have many fans. Entering his third season as head coach of the Saints, he hasn’t been able to lead the team to the playoffs, and many fans are ready to see him go. Some analysts have even argued that he’s the worst coach in the NFL.

Despite all of this, Allen remains very honest with the media, dropping weekly sound bites that grab the attention of the NFL world. Most recently, the Saints head coach had everyone laughing (at him) after he asked a question designed for an English class.

While answering a question, Allen said he’s going to leave the metaphors to the media, then, he paused. After everyone watched the wheels turn in his head for a few seconds, Allen broke his silence by asking the media what is a metaphor. He then made it clear he actually wanted to know the official definition of a metaphor.

NFL world is once again laughing at Dennis Allen

Hey, when you don’t know, it’s best to ask. To Allen’s defense, everyone often forgets some of the lessons we learned long ago in school. The media members informed Allen that a metaphor is a figure of speech used to compare two things. For example, Dennis Allen is an open book in his press conferences.

After the explanation, the head coach said the lesson was received. Unfortunately, as far as social media goes, the damage was already done. People used this as an opportunity to say the Saints won’t accomplish much this season and Allen will be fired before the year is over.

While his English knowledge isn’t going to be the reason New Orleans wins or loses games, Saints fans weren’t thrilled with the moment either. However, Allen can turn the page on this moment by having a successful season. If he leads the team back to the playoffs, and New Orleans actually looks like a true contender, fans won't care if Allen doesn’t know how to spell his first name.

But, if the Saints have another mediocre season, it will likely be the end of the chapter of Dennis Allen in New Orleans, and he won’t be around for the lesson on similes.
