Is this the end of the NFL road for this former Saints player?

In the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints took a shot on a wide receiver out of Wake Forest named A.T. Perry. At the time, the Saints had Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed as their starters but Perry ended up making it onto the team as a depth piece.

Perry finished his rookie year with 12 catches for 246 yards and four touchdowns and looked to be blossoming into a nice young player for the Saints. That did not carry over to 2024, as the Wake Forest product missed Week 1 due to injury and then was a healthy scratch in Week 2, puzzling the fan base.

As the season went on, Perry continued to pick up injuries here and there and it felt as though Dennis Allen and the head coaching staff got sick of being patient and simply moved on, waiving Perry in October of last year. It didn't help Perry's case that he had tweeted about Allen (it's since been deleted), stating, "God don't like ugly" with a shrug emoji.

Now Perry has moved on to Denver where he's joining another former Saints coach in Sean Payton and hoping to land a spot on the Broncos' 53-man roster. Perry will have his work cut out for him in the Mile High City, however, as he's currently slated to have to battle rookie Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin, and Trent Sherfield Sr. for one of the final receiver spots.

Former Saints WR A.T. Perry will have a tough time making Broncos roster

The injury concerns Perry had in New Orleans paired with the level of competition he has with his new team could make it tricky for the former Wake Forest product to land on Denver's roster. That being said, he showed potential during his rookie season so if he can stay healthy and show some of that talent, the Broncos could be inclined to keep him.

It'd hurt if Perry ended up not only making Denver's roster but playing well for the Broncos when Saints fans knew he had potential. That being said, first-year head coach Kellen Moore might have decided to go in a different direction anyway.

Saints fans will definitely be keeping an eye on Perry to see how he does with his new team and if he ends up sticking around in Denver.
