The New Orleans Saints' accumulation of talent this offseason has frequently been viewed from the point of view of assisting Tyler Shough. Former Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon gave a nod to what those additions mean for Kellen Moore.
Carthon complimented Moore as, "one of the better young play callers in this league." "We’ve seen him have success calling offenses in Dallas, we’ve seen him have success calling offenses in Philly, and now he’s going to be able to continue to grow in New Orleans," he elaborated.
Pairing one of the better play callers with an assortment of sought after weapons is a recipe for an explosive offense. Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson, Travis Etienne and more put Moore in a position where nearly nothing feels insurmountable. We're coming off a season where simply getting a holding call felt like the end of a drive. The mix of Moore and talent should make that a thing of the past.
Kellen Moore is surrounding himself with talent with the Saints just like he had with the Cowboys and Eagles
You want your coach to make the most out of the talent he has, but you don't want your coach trying to make gourmet meals out of scraps. Moore had a lot of talent with the Cowboys and Eagles. He's working towards that in New Orleans.
Talented wide receiver duos have just become a part of Moore's norm, starting with Ceedee Lamb and Amari Cooper for a couple of years in Dallas. A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith played second fiddle to Saquan Barkley in Philadelphia. Heck, even during Moore's year with the Chargers that we don't talk about, he very briefly had Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
In other words, receiver duos is Moore's thing, and now he's built his tandem in New Orleans. The pairing of Olave and Tyson makes for an exciting offense on paper, and Carthon is certainly excited.
Carthon praised the Tyson selection saying, "he was the one wide receiver from the draft class that you saw perform as a number one wide receiver. You can move him around; he can play X, he can play Z, he can play in the slot, and I think he’s going to be a real playmaker for them.”
Moore went and picked up his lead running back this offseason too. Travis Etienne's track record shows the potential to be the Saints first 1000 yard running back in nearly a decade.
Strong running back and explosive threats on the outside sounds like a Kellen Moore offense, and now it sounds like the Saints offense. With Shough developing at quarterback, it all feels like a perfect storm of an offense building together.
