Conflicting reports emerge over impact of Derek Carr injury on Davante Adams trade
By Ryan Heckman
Not only did the New Orleans Saints lose their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, but they also lost their starting quarterback for a little while.
After the game, it was reported that Derek Carr suffered an oblique injury. Tuesday, it was revealed that Carr was set to miss multiple games with the injury. Now, with Carr out, there is a possibility that rookie Spencer Rattler ends up taking over in the meantime.
With the Saints potentially starting a rookie quarterback for their immediate future as Carr recovers, many fans want to know how that will impact the organization going after star wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade.
After the news broke about Carr's timetable, we then saw multiple reports surface over the Saints' possible plans with trading for the Las Vegas Raiders wideout.
First, ESPN's Adam Schefter appeared live on-air during Tuesday's edition of NFL Live and had this to say:
"I think the events in New York and the events in New Orleans may have slowed down talks with those two teams, and we'll see if and when they can pick up some steam."
Meanwhile, NFL insider Josina Anderson took to social media to express what she's heard on the situation.
So, on one hand, we have Schefter stating that this is slowing things down. On the other hand, Anderson is reporting that the Carr injury won't impact the Saints' level of interest.
Where do the Saints stand on a potential Davante Adams trade?
W/hat we can gather from these reports, overall, is the fact that there seems to be a league-wide consensus over the asking price for Adams. Since the Raiders made it known they'd like a second-round pick plus another draft selection in exchange for Adams, things have been slow-moving.
More Saints news:
Las Vegas appeared ready to wait for the right deal just 48 hours ago, but with the current situations with the Saints and New York Jets, will they be in more of a hurry to try and settle for whatever the best offer may be?
For those who might not have heard, New York fired their head coach, Robert Saleh, on Tuesday. The Jets have the obvious connection with Aaron Rodgers having been a teammate of Adams previously, in Green Bay.
Now, with Adams' top two preferred destinations going through a bit of turmoil, it throws things for a loop. As Schefter reported, this could be slowed down a bit. But, the Raiders remain steadfast that they don't want to continue paying Adams when they know he's ultimately going to be traded.
There's a hesitancy on both sides of the equation, whether it be the Raiders or potential trade suitors. This has a feel of "something's gotta give," for lack of a better explanation.
The Saints are clearly still going to pursue Adams, but maybe not with as much haste. Could a deal get done while Carr is out? That's the real, interesting question, here.
