Derek Carr will miss multiple weeks for Saints after suffering an injury in Week 5
The bad news keeps coming for the New Orleans Saints. After losing their third straight game Monday night, it’s now being reported that starting quarterback Derek Carr will be sidelined for multiple weeks with an oblique injury.
The veteran quarterback left Monday’s game late in fourth quarter, after falling to the ground and immediately grabbing his side after a throw. He took a trip to the blue tent on the sideline, then made his way back to the locker room. He didn’t return to the game, and explained afterwards that he wasn’t feeling good physically, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to do his job.
Now, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo is reporting that Carr is expected to miss multiple games with the oblique injury.
Derek Carr expected to miss multiple games with oblique injury
New Orleans hasn’t announced the specifics or severity of the injury, but Carr’s history would lead fans to believe it’s serious. The veteran quarterback has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career, but he usually finds a way to battle through and get on the field. In his first season with the Saints, he sustained multiple injuries that led to him leaving the field with medical staff, but he still started all 17 games.
With all that in mind, this either means the oblique injury is serious, or it just restricts Carr from doing his job as a quarterback. Either way, New Orleans must figure out how to move forward the next few weeks while he’s out.
Second-year QB Jake Haener replaced Carr in Monday’s game, and he has served as the backup quarterback all season, with rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler being inactive every week, with the emergency-quarterback designation. While Carr is out, the expectation is that Haener will start, but the Saints could decide to take a different approach.
