7 New Orleans Saints UDFAs who could make a splash this summer
2. Abram Smith, RB (Baylor)
Running back is an area of need for the Saints, especially with Alvin Kamara’s potential looming suspension. Throw in that Mark Ingram wasn’t as productive in the last few games last season and that Tony Jones Jr. didn’t impress all that much and Abram Smith has a shot to climb up the depth chart.
Smith rushed for 1,601 yards and scored 12 times during his senior season with Baylor. He didn’t do much in the years before that but all it took was that one season for the Saints to see what the Bears running back could provide to the black and gold at the professional level.
Kamara is the only sure thing at the running back spot for the Saints so I wouldn’t be shocked to see Smith not only make the roster but get a decent amount of playing time in 2022.
1. Smoke Monday, S (Auburn)
The UDFA signing that Saints fans were the most excited about was far and away Smoke Monday out of Auburn. Not only did the Tigers’ DB immediately take to Instagram to talk trash on his hometown Atlanta Falcons but he was also seen sporting a Drew Brees jersey, which thrilled the Who Dat faithful.
Monday going undrafted was a bit surprising but he could make some noise with the Saints. The Mathieu signing bumped a few players down the depth chart but Monday is certainly someone who can not only make the team but play actual snaps in the secondary this year.
These seven UDFAs should be a lot of fun to watch this offseason. Who are you the most excited to watch?
