Malcolm Brown

A former first-round pick, Malcolm Brown was given a three-year, $15 million contract back in 2019. Since then, he’s played in 44 games, 29 being with the Saints.

Brown’s been a solid option, but he’s not the player in the middle of the defensive line that Sheldon Rankins is, and while his contract isn’t too massive, it’s a deal that the Saints may be better of shedding.

CBS Sports’ Joel Corry mentioned Brown as a player that could be released to save some space for New Orleans. Brown’s cap hit for the 2021 season is at $6.5 million while his dead cap is just at $1.5 million.

"“$5 million of cap space can be gained from cutting defensive tackle Malcolm Brown. He was only on the field for 33 percent of New Orleans’ defensive snaps despite playing 13 games,” Corry noted."

Brown totaled one sack and 27 tackles. He had three tackles for loss in 2020 as well. That said, the Saints should make better use of their money and add another defensive tackle in the draft or for a much smaller price in free agency.

The 26-year-old Brown didn’t do much for New Orleans, and his future should reflect that.
