Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

C.J. Gardner-Johnson might not have gotten his opportunity at strong safety or free safety this year, but he did get a chance at the slot position and played it extremely well. Are the Saints using all of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson’s talent wisely?

In my opinion, Gardner-Johnson has the potential to be a starting safety in the NFL. The New Orleans Saints currently start Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams. Bell is also slated for free agency this year and there is potential he leaves.

Last year in his rookie season, Gardner-Johnson tallied one interception, eight pass deflections, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 49 tackles (6 for a loss), and four hits on the quarterback in just seven starts on the year.

Those are quality numbers out of a part-time rookie safety. If Bell does leave, Gardner-Johnson will get his shot to step in as the teams starting strong safety. That is just the opportunity the rookie needs to break out in his sophomore season.

Fearless Projection: 4 interceptions, 85+ tackles, 2 sacks, 3+ forced fumbles and recoveries
