Who Dat Dish: New Orleans Saints News, Rumors And Links For 7/1

After a brief hiatus we’re back with all the New Orleans Saints news, rumors and links you can handle to kick off the month of July. Alright, there’s not that much going on but we figured you’d still want the latest, as brief as it may be, on your beloved Saints.

Let’s take a look.

NOLA.com Says Roman Harper is a Top 15 Player on Team

This will probably be one of the most debated rankings on the list, since many Saints fans weren’t happy with Harper even before he had the worst season of his career in 2012. But the return to an attacking, aggressive style under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan should be a great fit for Harper, who was a two-time Pro Bowl player under former coordinator Gregg Williams’ similar scheme.

Harper has always struggled in deep pass coverage — especially in two infamous playoff performances at Seattle and at San Francisco. But during his prime years under Williams, he was arguably the Saints’ most dynamic playmaker as a blitzer and open-field tackler. He had 12 sacks and 10 forced fumbles 2009-11. Last year, Harper had zero sacks and zero forced fumbles while being asked to spend more time in zone coverage under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, which was obviously a bad fit for Harper’s skills. But Harper deserves his share of the blame, too. He missed too many tackles and took too many poor angles in the open field. He needs to be a lot more disciplined if he wants to revive his career this year.

ESPN Details Jabari Greer’s Thoughts on Team

Per Pat Yasinskas:

New Orleans Saints cornerback Jabari Greer takes over Peter King’s “Monday Morning Quarterback” column this week. Greer: “What was not told in the headlines or on the news, however, was the spirit of our men in the locker room,” during the Saints’ 2012 season.
