Teams are beginning to report for training camp. That's how you know football isn't far away. Preseason will make the time go by faster, but things get real in 57 days when the New Orleans Saints take on the Arizona Cardinals. Taysom Hill's 57-yard run against the Atlanta Falcons continues our countdown to kickoff as our play of the day.

In typical Hill fashion, he took a direct snap on a third and short. He once again got the first down and some. Hill's explosive run continue's the countdown's streak of featuring plays that happened on past season openers. Yesterday, we took a look at Wil Lutz''s clutch game winning field goal against the Houston Texans. That game also featured a quick drive by Drew Brees.

On Thursday, Rashid Shaheed's 59-yard score against the Carolina Panthers was featured as the play of the day. That was the first score of the season. Lutz's field goal secured a win in the closing seconds of the opening game. Hill's 57-yard scamper fell somewhere in the middle.

Taysom Hill's role transitioned as a full-time non-quarterback

2021 was the last time that we heard about Hill playing quarterback. He was in a battle for the starting quarterback spot with Jameis Winston. He lost that battle, but he did play a few games when Winston went down with injury.

That was the last time we saw the idea of Hill playing quarterback was bounced around. When Winston went down with injury again, Andy Dalton manned the starting spot. With the book closed on Hill's hopes at quarterback, that truly cemented his role in the Saints offense.

Hill has always been used as a jack of all trades. After 2022, his passing attempts have steadily dropped. His attempts have dissipated, but Hill is still deadly on the ground. His 57-yard rush was just one of many examples of this.
