The Tyler Shough hype train is full steam ahead, and Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox is adding more fuel to the fire. When evaluating the New Orleans Saints roster, he thinks Shough is the most promising player on the roster.

It was just a 9 start season for the now-second year player, but he showed a lot of promise in those 9 starts. Shough is looking to avoid the sophomore slump and the Saints have taken the steps to help him achieve that goal. If Shough's quick ascension continues in Year 2, Knox will be a genius.

Shough is the easiest pick for the most promising player on the team. He's a quarterback, so he naturally is the first to come to mind. It still feels like a bit of a large statement when looking at the rest of the roster.

Calling Tyler Shough the Saints' most promising player is a bold take

Shough is a huge part of the reason Saints' ceiling feels higher than it's been in a while, but the supporting cast is equally encouraging. The Saints have young, talented players sprinkled through this team. That's what makes this an interesting question for the Saints.

There's 3 to 5 options to choose from in this situation. If asking who the most promising player on the Saints roster was, Shough, Chris Olave, Chase Young, Jordyn Tyson and Kelvin Banks Jr. would all be reasonable answers. They have a high level of talent and years ahead of them to be franchise cornerstones.

Knox's parameters of no All-Pro or Pro Bowl nods takes Olave and Young off the list, though. Tyson is also disqualified because he's a rookie. That leaves Shough and Banks, and the quarterback will win that battle nine times out of 10.

Stripping those parameters from the equation, and it becomes much more interesting of a question. Shough is still a viable option, but Young feels like the true most promising player.

Shough still has a limited sample size of just 9 starts. Young is on a two year progression to being one of the most productive pass rushers in the league. In his first year with the Saints, Young was a pressure monster who struggled to turn it into sacks. Last year, he conquered that obstacle for his first ever double digit sack season.

All Young needs to do is stay healthy and consistent. If he does those two things, Young could see himself close to the top-5 in sacks in 2026. He has the ability to take over the game and wreck offenses in critical moments.

Walking out of last season, Young feels like the most promising player. Shough could change that with a full season, but it's a close battle.
