Rookie wide receivers have been all the talk around New Orleans Saints training camp. Jordyn Tyson looks flat out different, Barion Brown has been the biggest riser and Bryce Lance is been coming along well as of late. Lance's latest highlight was an explosive 50 yard touchdown from Tyler Shough against Travis Hunter.
WWL's Jeff Nowak pointed out it was the first connection between Lance and Shough in camp, which is a sign of how the wide receiver is working his way up. The reception was the first big play of joint practice. He dashed across Hunter's face on a crossing route for an easy reception and turned upfield for some extra YAC afterwards.
Lance's growth through camp is best represented by Chris Olave's comments after practice on Thursday. "Bryce is doing a really good job too. He's coming on. He has talent at 6'3" 200 pounds. He can run. I feel like he's getting better and better each day of practice." Lance has the raw talent, and he's starting to put it together in a way that should excite fans.
Bryce Lance and Barion Brown could be the key to Saints making plays downfield
The top three receivers on the Saints are set. It's Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson and Devaughn Vele, with no questions about it. Lance and Barion Brown are making strong claims, however, that they are ready and deserving of a role on the offense as a rookie.
It wouldn't be a stretch to say both rookies could come in and be specialists from Day 1. They both are known for their elite speed, and could be used as field stretchers early in their career. With the way Lance and Brown have performed in camp, Kellen Moore is going to have no choice but to figure out how to use them in 2026.
In addition to stretching the field, Lance and Brown have strong run after the catch ability. We've previously described Brown as a "just get the ball in his hands" type of player, and the same could be said about Lance.
The Saints having to find a role for talented player is one thing, but the talent Lance and Brown are flashing produces trust in case of injury. If one of the top three has an injury, there should be belief that either Lance or Brown can contribute in a larger capacity. Until then, just get the ball in their hands.
