If you love it, let it go. That's the phrase, right? Well, it's something that has really rung true with the New Orleans Saints and their future Ring of Honor member, Taysom Hill.
The quarterback/fullback/tight end recently announced on social media that he won't be returning to Crescent City for a 10th season in the NFL. "I've taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me," Hill said. "I still don't have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that a return to New Orleans is not in the cards."
Stopping just short of announcing a retirement, Hill didn't quite close the door to his professional career. While the idea of him playing in other colors is tough to stomach, it's also something that just happens sometimes in this league. No matter how he goes out, though, it's safe to say that he's one of the most iconic players to put on a Saints uniform.

I still remember the shock of seeing a single-digit number on special teams back in 2017. I don't think I've ever sat up so quickly before that moment, and from that moment on, I was hooked. "Sean, you've pulled off something incredible again" was my number one thought.
From there, the story of Taysom Hill got crazier and crazier. It turned out that the quarterback that fans saw on punt returns could actually do so much more than just the occasional special teams snap. So, so much more.
Hill was truly something special, and the number of things that he could do on a football field were second to none. In New Orleans, he did some things that the NFL hadn't seen since Frank Gifford was on the field. What's more, even compared to the Hall of Famer, Hill is still in a class of his own.
Before he entered the league, no one else was ever as productive as he was, not even Gifford. Taking defenses apart with a pass, run, or catch and even managing to block a punt or two, Hill is a football player that should be talked about for generations to come. He even has a jersey and a pair of cleats up in Canton, Ohio, despite the fact that he's not eligible for the Hall of Fame.
Again, it'll be tough to see him wear another team's uniform (if he does). But no one has really done what Hill has managed to do, and if he doesn't want to hang up his cleats just yet, who are we to stop him? It's a privilege to get to watch him play football, and if we get another year of that, then that's a good thing for fans across the league.
