Taysom Hill has always been a key to success for the Saints throughout his career
Since 2017, the New Orleans Saints have had three head coaches, nine starting quarterbacks, and have a 78-48 regular season record. The one staple that has been a model of consistency for New Orleans has been Taysom Hill.
Yes, Taysom Hill, the 34 year-old former college quarterback (with three season-ending injuries in college) turned tight end, kick returner, fullback, wide receiver, well everything for that matter. Despite whoever may be taking snaps under center or who's calling the plays, the one main stay is the utilization of Swiss army knife Taysom Hill.
Hill’s utilization was on full display in game two of the Darren Rizzi era, in a Week 11 win against the Cleveland Browns, as he saw a collective 18 touches for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Hill lined up as a fullback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, kick returner, punt blocker, and quarterback on Sunday, and he's no stranger to being heavily utilized in all aspects of the team.
His performance lit up social media on Sunday, likely due to some of the fantasy football implications that Hill helped deliver or destroy. Hill posted a top-five fantasy football performance of all time on Sunday, almost guaranteeing victory if he was in your starting lineup.
Again, Hill is no stranger to these kind of explosive games, and typically, the Saints are successful when Taysom Hill is heavily involved. New Orleans is 38-20 when Taysom Hill gets at least five touches, 12-2 when logging at least 100 all-purpose yards, 27-12 when scoring at least one touchdown, 27-13 when completing at least one pass, 32-20 when catching at least one pass, and a staggering 11-1 when returning at least one kick.
What do these stats mean? On the surface level, it means the Saints need to find a way to give Taysom Hill the football as much as they possibly can. We already know Hill's ability to contribute all over the field, but defenses can't seem to stop him.
Darren Rizzi's coaching style has freed up the stars of Saints' past, and if the plan moving forward is to feed Taysom Hill- it could bode well for the franchise moving forward.
