Jameis Winston is back in New Orleans, working as a digital correspondent for FOX Sports during Super Bowl week. On Monday, he made his debut during the opening media night, and in true Jameis fashion, he had multiple viral moments with players.
One moment that gained traction amongst New Orleans Saints fans actually came when Winston was being interviewed. When asked by Boot Krewe Media how it feels to be back in New Orleans, Winston expressed that he was blessed to be at home, in front of his people. He then said that he’s happy to actually have a job in New Orleans, and that he hopes to be the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
Jameis Winston says he hopes to be the quarterback for the Saints
Winston, of course, played four seasons with the Saints from 2020 to 2023, and that’s when the city became home for him. He fully embraced the people and culture of New Orleans, and the fan base accepted him. However, he left in free agency last offseason to join the Cleveland Browns on a one-year deal.
That deal will soon expire, and he’ll be a free agent again; it seems like he’s eyeing a return to the Saints. The quarterback situation in New Orleans is certainly still unstable. Derek Carr is under contract for two more seasons, and Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are also still on the roster.
Fans are ready to move on from Carr, and it’s unclear if one of the younger QBs on the roster can emerge as a franchise QB, but the team could decide to shake things up this offseason. Could that mean bringing back Winston? He’d certainly pass the vibe check, but he won’t change much as far as the future outlook goes.
The Saints need a young quarterback they can build around for years to come. But, in the meantime, a lot of fans would be on board with switching out Carr for Jameis Winston.
