While there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the New Orleans Saints, one thing is certain: they need a quarterback. The Saints have quarterbacks on the roster, but they don’t have a franchise quarterback that’s going to carry them into the future. New Orleans still has Derek Carr, but it remains unclear if he’s going to be on the roster next season. The team also has Spencer Rattler, who had promising moments as a rookie last season, and Jake Haener.

What everyone really wants the Saints to do, though, is draft a first-round quarterback. New Orleans hasn’t done that since selecting Archie Manning in 1971. With the 2025 Draft approaching, fans and media members would love to see that change, and it seems like Saints veterans would like to as well.

In recent weeks, a couple of Saints veterans have seemingly expressed interest in one specific prospective quarterback: Shedeur Sanders. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, and one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 Draft Class, recently spent a lot of time with current NFL players during Super Bowl weekend. That’s when a couple of current Saints alluded to him being drafted by New Orleans.

The first player to do so was Cam Jordan. The veteran defensive end was working the red carpet with NFL Network for NFL Honors, and in an interview with Deion and Shedeur Sanders, Jordan joked that maybe Shedeur could fall to No. 9 in the draft and help New Orleans do something special. They all laughed it off as Jordan was accused of wishful thinking.

Jordan wasn’t alone, though. Sanders also ran into Saints tight end Juwan Johnson at the NFL’s celebrity flag football game, and as the two joked about Johnson’s TikTok fame, the veteran tight end encouraged the quarterback prospect to get his arm ready as they embraced. Of course, this was picked up by Saints fans, who believe Johnson was alluding to Sanders coming to the Saints.

With the video making it’s rounds, some fans joked that Johnson may not even be in New Orleans next season. That’s fair to point out, though, because he is set to be a free agent. However, it seems like he has his sights set on returning, and possibly having Shedeur Sanders throw him the ball.

Following the Combine, that doesn’t seem as unlikely as it once did. Sanders was once believed to be a top-three pick, but now there are reports that he could slide, and go at No. 6 at the earliest. Of course, draft season is also known as smoke-screen season, so it’s impossible to know what is and isn’t real, but the Saints would be esctatic if a top quarterback prospect fell to them at No. 9.
