Throughout the pre-draft process, it’s becoming clear the New Orleans Saints would love to take a quarterback in the 2025 Draft. The Saints have sent large contingents to pro days of top quarterbacks like Cam Ward, and also hosted Quinn Ewers for dinner before his pro day.
Just recently, New Orleans took another step with a quarterback prospect. On Thursday, the team held a private workout for Kyle McCord. The former Syracuse quarterback is coming off the best season of his college career, but he’s flying under the radar going into the draft.

Saints hold private workout for quarterback prospect Kyle McCord
McCord obviously isn’t flying under New Orleans’ radar, as he appears to be an option for the team. In 2024, McCord completed 66% of his passes for 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, leading Syracuse to a 10-3 record. The magical season came after three years at Ohio State.
Now, McCord is hoping to continue his development at the next level, but he’ll likely be selected in the mid to late rounds of the draft— possibly by New Orleans.
It’s not surprising the Saints are determined to find a quarterback, because they don’t currently have a franchise QB, and haven’t since Drew Brees retried. They are bringing Derek Carr back for another season, but he’s not a long-term solution. New Orleans also has Spencer Rattler, who showed promising flashes last season, but it’s still unclear what he could be.
If the Saints have the chance to select a quarterback in this draft that they like more than Rattler, they’ll likely do it. For some reason, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that quarterback should be McCord. Before New Orleans even officially hired Kellen Moore, he said McCord and Moore seem like a strong fit for the Saints. The team has already secured one part of the equation, and it could be on its way to getting the other.
