Jordyn Tyson left Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury. Kellen Moore provided an update of uncertainty, and that uncertainty is what should concern New Orleans Saints fans. The lack of certainty is even harder to accept with Tyson's history with hamstring injuries.
"It’s not anything related to a previous hamstring injury, It’s something new. So, they’ll collect some more information on that, put together an action plan for that moving forward and keep progressing as well as we can.”
What Saints fans needed to hear was that Tyson was fine and will be back on the field soon. Even saying they would be holding him out of camp as a precaution would have been slightly calming. The Saints needing to gather information and figuring out a plan should have fans wondering when their first round pick will step on the field.
Jordyn Tyson is at a high risk to miss the Saints season opener
That's just the fact of a hamstring injury. It could genuinely be nothing, but without a given timetable, the mind is left to wander. Saying this could last for the next three weeks isn't predicting the worst case scenario.
Understanding that hamstring injuries are notorious for being pesky, the possibility of Tyson being ready to play Week 1 just took a hit. Jordan suffered a hamstring injury as well but before Tyson, and Moore told reporters there's a chance the edge rusher will miss the first game. That puts Tyson right in that timeframe.
Tyson also can't rush back from this either. If anything, it's an injury you want to take an extra week to recover from because it's so easy to re-aggravate it. While it'll be rough to miss the beginning of the season, it's much better than the alternative of missing the majority of the year because he rushed back.
This was the fear around the selection. A hamstring kept him out of the entire draft process and most offseason activities. There was always the question of if it was going to pop back up.
As time progresses, we'll get a clearer picture of when to expect Tyson on the field. Three weeks puts Tyson on the fence where having enough time to recover and possibly missing the opener both feel like likely options.
