For the first time, we have a full sweep of the New Orleans Saints' player of the game. Typically, our staff members differentiate from who we believe is the top player of each game is but not this time. Our undisputed player of the game is Martin Emerson.

Emerson wasn't alone in his strong performance. He was joined by fellow defenders Chase Young and Carl Granderson, as both finished the game with 1.5 sacks. This is the second game in a row for Granderson with more than one sack and Young's third game this year with more than one sack.

Had the Saints not given up late scores, the defense have gotten more shine, but the late rally by the Giants changed the conversation. That ended up being the biggest story of the game, but there were some positives on the day, and it starts with Emerson.

Martin Emerson is the Saints' clear player of the game

Martin Emerson has earned himself more opportunities.

I'll keep this one brief since we're all aligned. There's not a cornerback on this team who has had a better game this year than the one Emerson had on Sunday. The team had one interception going into the day, and he recorded two of them against the Giants..

Emerson challenged receivers at the catch point and had a few strong reps against Malik Nabers. Overall, the cornerback finished with four passes defensed and two interceptions. There's a chance he ends up as NFC Defensive Player of the Week, so there was no chance Emerson wouldn't be the player of the game.

Martin Emerson could transform a struggling unit

Martin Emerson Jr. is my player of the game. The veteran cornerback had a breakout performance with two interceptions, four pass breakups, and seven tackles. He capitalized on his opportunities, making plays when given the chance.

Emerson must continue this trend. The Saints’ cornerback room is inconsistent, with both Kool-Aid McKinstry and Quincy Riley making blunders. Emerson establishing himself as a reliable option is the key to unlocking the defense and hindering opposing receivers.

I’m not expecting him to be a lockdown cornerback. But being serviceable and not allowing any explosive plays would transform a struggling unit.~ Drew Collings

Martin Emerson made the most of next man up opportunity

This game better not go by without cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. getting some kudos. He single-handedly brought the hype train to the Saints today with his two interceptions.

Nearly getting a third INT halfway through the fourth quarter, Emerson Jr. had his best game as a Saint and his best game as a professional. Furthermore, also given the fact that Kool-Aid McKinstry was fighting an illness for most of the game, he did this all as the next man-up. Emerson Jr. just showed incredible grit today, which is why he’s my player of the game.~ Molly Bauer
