After winning Super Bowl 59 with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kellen Moore was named the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. After an introductory press conference in New Orleans, and a celebration parade in Philadelphia, Moore got right to work on New Orleans’ extensive list of offseason tasks.
The first thing on his list was building a coaching staff. The Saints lost a lot of assistants this offseason, so Moore and the team had several roles to fill. While they’re still in the process of filling all the open roles, Moore has reportedly already found his offensive coordinator.
NFL insider Josina Anderson, and others, are reporting that New Orleans is in the process of finalizing a deal with Eagles’ quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier to be the the offensive coordinator.

Saints are planning to make Doug Nussmeier offensive coordinator
As soon as Kellen Moore was hired as head coach, the expectation was that Nussmeier would follow him; that move is now close to becoming official. It’s not surprising that Moore is selecting Nussmeier to be his first offensive coordinator, because the two have been linked with each other for the last few seasons.
Nussmeier coached tight ends for the Dallas Cowboys in 2018— Moore’s first year as Dallas’ quarterbacks coach. A year later, Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator and Nussmeier eventually became the quarterbacks coach. When Moore left to be the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, Nussmeier came along as the quarterbacks coach. The same thing happened when they went to Philly together in 2024.
In addition to sticking with Kellen Moore, this is a full circle moment for Nussmeier. He played in the league as a quarterback, and was drafted by the Saints in the fourth round of the 1994 Draft. He spent his first four seasons with the team before spending a couple of years with other franchises.
His coaching career started in 2001 in the Canadadian football league, and he has a ton of experience as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator ranging from the CFL, NCAA, and the NFL. Through it all, he has kept his ties with Louisiana, as his son Garrett Nussmeier is the current starting quarterback for LSU.
As Garrett prepares to lead the Tigers to wins on Saturday, his father will play a part in helping Louisiana’s pro team win on Sunday.
