Kellen Moore became the head coach of the New Orleans Saints because of his work as an offensive coordinator in the league. Now that he has all of the responsibilities of the man in charge of the entire operation, he’s being intentional about not forgetting what got him here. Moore is an offensive coach that has a passion for play calling, and that will be on full display during his tenure with the Saints.
In his introductory press conference, Moore made it clear that he would be calling plays. It’s very common for former coordinators, offensive and defensive, to sacrifice play calling when they become a head coach, but that won’t be Moore. He explained that play calling is a passion for him, and that he’s going to be hands on with the offense.
Moore made it clear that his plan for the Saints offense is for them to stress defenses every week, as often as possible. When asked how exactly he plans to do that, he explained that New Orleans will use a lot of tempo, motions, and shifts, to keep defenses on their heels. As far as what the offensive identity will be in terms of running or passing, Moore said he doesn’t care, he’ll call whatever the group is best at, and whatever is needed to win.

Kellen Moore says Saints offense will use a lot of tempo and pre-snap movement
This is music to Saints’ fans ears, because these are the kind of things good offenses do. When New Orleans did have offensive success in 2024, the unit was leaning on tempo, pre-snap movement, and play action. Moore plans to make that a consistent theme, and it should yield good results.
Of course, what will ultimately matter is if the Saints have the guys. Fortunately, New Orleans does have some talented weapons offensively. The team has to get the quarterback situation figured out, and build better depth in case injuries strike again, but Kellen Moore will have a solid foundation to start with.
