At this point of the offseason, teams are usually losing cap space by the day. With the busiest part of free agency behind the league, teams typically have just enough room left to make some minor signings and then sign their draft class. That’s typically the cycle the league goes through every offseason, but the New Orleans Saints didn’t seem to get the memo.
The Saints start every offseason significantly over the salary cap, before making just enough retructures to get under the cap and sign a few players. This year, however, New Orleans has been far more aggressive. Despite starting the offseason almost $50 million over the cap, the Saint have been able to re-sign players like Chase Young and Juwan Johnson, and also sign veteran safety Justin Reid.
What's even more exciting is that New Orleans doesn’t seem to be finished yet. On Wednesday, it was reported that veteran receiver Cedrick Wilson restructured his deal, and fans noticed the latest move helped the Saints to have more than $30 million in cap space. That’s considered a lot at this point in the offseason, and the Wilson move raised antennas, because it’s a really small contract to restructure.
Either the Saints are addicted to reworking contracts or they're gearing up for a move. https://t.co/MaedIe7OtA

The decision to rework Wilson’s contract made everyone wonder what New Orleans has up its sleeve with all of this cap space.
The Saints created 31 million in cap space. They are going to do SOMETHING big. They wouldn’t have done it otherwise. Signings, trade or maybe moving on from Carr? IDK, but Loomis doesn’t just cut bonus checks to create cap space for nothing.

Saints have over $30 million in cap space after restructuring Cedrick Wilson’s contract
It’s unclear what massive move New Orleans could really be gearing up to make. New Orleans still needs to add to the offensive line, wide receiver room, and secondary, and there are also still free agents available like Teven Jenkins, Keenan Allen, and Asante Samuel Jr. that make sense for the team. However, none of those guys, alone, seem like the catalyst to New Orleans clearing space.
Whatever the plan is, the Saints certainly have the fans’ attention. Everyone is waiting to see what will happen, because it’d be weird, and disappointing, for the team to be creating this space just for the sport of it.
