The New Orleans Saints signed safety Justin Reid to a three-year deal worth $31.5 million to help shore up the secondary. That was a well-respected move and it's been nice to see the Saints make some impactful signings in free agency.
That being said, we have to talk about how the Saints announced the Reid signing on social media. The Saints welcomed Reid to New Orleans with what seemed to be a typical "Welcome to the Saints" type of announcement. At least that's what the first slide was.
It's the second slide where things got hairy. The Saints included a photo on the second slide probably as a "Here's another action shot of our new player" type of thing, only... it wasn't Justin Reid in the picture.
The Saints included a photo of Trent McDuffie by mistake. The easiest way to tell this is the jersey number, as Reid wore number 20 in Kansas City while McDuffie wore/wears number 22. The guy photographed in the second photo is wearing a number 22 jersey. Just... oof.
Saints accidentally include a photo of Trent McDuffie in social media post intended for Justin Reid
These type of things happen all the time but it doesn't make it any less embarrassing when they do occur. The easiest way to tell players apart, since yes, it is kind of hard to tell who is who when they have their helmets on, is by their jersey numbers. While 20 and 22 are close to each other in numerical order, they're not the same numbers and should be easy to differentiate.
It is worth noting that the post has been updated to include a photo of Reid on the second slide, so at least there's that. Still, this is just another moment where Saints fans can facepalm while other fan bases take turns dunking on the organization.
So it goes.
