The 2025 Scouting Combine has arrived, and a ton of storylines are already unfolding. This scouting process will be an important one for the New Orleans Saints, as it will be the first draft of the Kellen Moore era. Additionally, since the Saints are an old and expensive team, their best path to reshaping their roster is through the draft.

New Orleans’ first pick is currently set at ninth overall. There will be a ton of elite prospects on the board at No. 9, and New Orleans could go in several different directions with the pick. No one would expect the Saints to use the pick on a running back, though. However, the team is taking time to get to know the top running back in the class.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the Saints will be meeting with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty during combine week. Jeanty is coming off an all-time great season where he finished second in Heisman voting, and he’s atop one of the most talented running back classes in recent memory.

While Jeanty is a special prospect, many would argue that New Orleans needs to go in a different direction. Not only does the team have several more pressing needs, the Saints also have Alvin Kamara under contract for two more seasons. Jeanty will probably be great in the league, but him being drafted by New Orleans likely won’t go over well.

The one person it would make happy, though, is Saints legend Mark Ingram. Ingram recently expressed that he’d love for New Orleans to select Jeanty. The former running mate of Alvin Kamara argued that Jeanty would make the perfect backfield duo with Kamara, and that the two could be the center of an elite offense.

While true, it may better serve the Saints to draft an elite pass catcher or edge defender. Either way, it doesn’t hurt that New Orleans is getting to know Jeanty ahead of the draft.
