On Sunday, Bryan Bresee had the most impactful game of his young career with the New Orleans Saints. The second-year defensive tackle recorded a sack, two batted passes, and sealed the win over the New York Giants with a blocked field goal on the penultimate play of the game. These are the kind of games the Saints envisioned Bresee having when they drafted him in the first round of the 2023 Draft, and the franchise believes the young defender is just getting started.

After the Week 14 win, Bresee received praise from his teammates and coaches about what he has already done, and what they believe he’ll do in this league. That praise started on the field during a post-game interview with Cam Jordan, that he pulled Bresee into.

The veteran defensive lineman rattled off everything Bresee did on Sunday, before exclaiming that Bresee is going to be someone to be reckoned with forever and ever.

Interim head coach Darren Rizzi echoed that sentiment in his postgame press conference, saying that Bresee is a guy whose best football is still out there. The young defensive tackle has been improving every week, but the team knows his ceiling is far higher than what he’s showed so far.

Currently, he’s leading the Saints with tackles on the season with 7.5, and that’s pretty good for a second-year defensive tackle. Playing in all 13 games this season, Bresee has 19 tackles, seven for a loss, one forced fumble, and three batted passes, in addition to his 7.5 sacks.

Those numbers are already better than the 24 tackles, seven for a loss, six batted passes, and 4.5 sacks that he had in 17 games as a rookie. Clearly, Bresee is moving in the right direction. The question, now, is how far can the defensive tackle take things.
