It came down to the final play, but the New Orleans Saints are leaving New Jersey with a win over the New York Giants. Escaping with a 14-11 victory, second-year defensive tackle Bryan Bresee deserves the game ball, because he balled out all game, and made the game-sealing play.

Only needing three points to force overtime, the Giants drove 56 yards in 10 plays to set up a 35-yard field goal attempt. Overtime seemed inevitable, but Bresee had other plans, deciding to end the game with an impressively athletic feat.

Lined up to the right of the snapper in a four-point stance, Bresee exploded up as soon as the ball was snapped, jumped over the center, landed on his feet, and batted the ball, preventing it from reaching the uprights. It was a true heroic effort from Bresee that sealed a win for New Orleans.

Saints defeat Giants after impressive blocked field goal from Bryan Bresee

It was fitting Bresee put the exclamation point on the game, because he may have had the best performance of his young career Sunday. In addition to the blocked field goal, the second-year defensive tackle had a sack, two quarterback hits, and two batted passes. That may not seem like a lot, but from the defensive tackle position, he absolutely had his finger prints all over the game.

This continues the upward trajectory he has been on as of late, as he now leads the team with 7.5 sacks. On the season, playing in all 13 games, he has 19 total tackles, seven for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and three batted passes. 3.5 of his sacks have come in the last three games.

These are already better numbers than he had last season as a rookie when he played all 17 games and only recorded 4.5 sacks and 24 tackles, with seven for a loss. The Saints are hoping this is the start of their 2023 first-round pick becoming an elite defender.
