Word on the street is that the Los Angeles Rams might be in need of a new backup quarterback next season. If they do, they might consider trading for New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler.

All offseason, the expectation has been that they'd re-sign 12-year vet Jimmy Garoppolo. However, recent reports by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggest that Garoppolo might actually hang up his cleats. If he does, the Rams will need to look elsewhere for the backup to Matthew Stafford. Luckily for them, another former starting QB could be on the move: Spencer Rattler.

He's got 16 starts under his belt and was one of the most valued backups in the league when Tyler Shough won the starting job. However, the recent signing of Zach Wilson has raised questions about Rattler's status on the team. He has yet another position battle looming, and this time if he loses, he might find better opportunities elsewhere. Although, if one thing is for sure, he'll go down fighting.

Saints QB Spencer Rattler won't go down without a fight

Spencer Rattler has been in this situation before. It's one he's actually pretty familiar with. He's been in a position battle in each of his two seasons. Year 1 it was for the backup role, and he competed for the starting role last season. You could argue he won both of those competitions. Those battles are something that has made him a better football player.

At least, that's what the quarterback himself thinks. "I know what I bring to the table," Rattler said to the media when asked about last offseason's battle. "I'm confident in what I can do in this competition. I feel like that brings the best out of me."

This might be his toughest competition yet, though. Recently signed quarterback Zach Wilson has a lot more experience than him, and that's something that teams like in a backup QB. However, if you even the sample size, the two are more neck-and-neck than some might initially think.
