Spencer Rattler had a perfect reaction to his incredible TD to Equanimeous St. Brown
The New Orleans Saints dropped their final preseason game of the summer but no one really cared all that much since these games don't count. What Saints fans do care about is that someone finally stepped up in the backup quarterback battle, as Spencer Rattler looked the part of a reliable backup in the preseason finale.
Rattler went 7-of-13 for 105 yards and one touchdown in his final glimpse of preseason action. The touchdown Rattler had was to Equanimeous St. Brown and it was a beaut.
Rattler got this ball to St. Brown despite the wideout being completely surrounded by Titans defenders. As the commentators said, it was a perfect throw. This definitely helped Rattler stand out more in the QB2 battle and hearing him talk about the touchdown after the game was also a lot of fun.
When asked to explain what went on during the touchdown pass (this begins around the 31 second mark of the video), Rattler explained that the "ball wasn't supposed to go there" but St. Brown ran the perfect route and Rattler trusted him. "I put it where I needed to and [St. Brown] made a heck of a play." He also said quarterbacks have to improve sometimes and as we know, this was certainly one of those times.

The Saints spent a fifth-round pick on Rattler in this year's draft and it felt like an absolute steal at the time. Rattler was previously considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football during his days with the Oklahoma Sooners but his attitude became a problem and not only was he benched but he transferred to South Carolina following the 2021 season.
Rattler never got back to the level of hype he had during his Boomer Sooner days but he had a respectable 2023 campaign with the Gamecocks. The Saints rookie had nearly 3,200 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight picks during his final collegiate season while rushing for over 100 yards and four more scores.
Rattler's competition for the backup spot this summer has been former fourth-rounder Jake Haener, who the team nabbed in last year's draft. Haener has not shown much during the preseason and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Saints officially picked Rattler to backup Derek Carr in 2024. He'd have earned that right.
