Can you blame them?

The New Orleans Saints are set to kick off their 2024 regular season against the Carolina Panthers this weekend. While that game feels like it should result in a victory, overall, Saints fans aren't feeling all that optimistic heading into the third year of the Dennis Allen experiment.

According to a survey from The Athletic, Saints fans are actually the least optimistic fan base entering the 2024 season. Yes, Saints fans are somehow more pessimistic about their 2024 chances than fans of the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and New York Giants.

Saints fans aren't excited for what the 2024 season has in store

The Athletic included pessimistic and optimistic comments submitted by the fans and there were three pessimistic Saints fans and just one optimistic Saints fan included in this article. One pessimistic fan named H.B. said that while fans watch and attend the games, the team is only slightly better than mediocre. He mentions that the coach and quarterback are "only serviceable" and the kicker was saying that the Saints will win games but not enough games. Oof.

Another pessimist was Alex, who commented that the team is still sticking with the "same aging stars" while taking a shot at them for their "same bloated cap" and calls Dennis Allen a mediocre coach. The cherry on top of Alex's comment is saying that Allen should have remained the Saints defensive coordinator.

Andrew was another pessimist included in the comments and said that he views the Saints as "a zombie team" until they're able to get their salary cap cleaned up. "We keep trying to keep our championship window open, even though it shut four years ago" is the real winning comment here and he's not lying. That's exactly what the Saints have continued doing even though it's pretty clear they're not contending for a Super Bowl with this group.

The lone optimist included was a guy named David who believes in the Saints. He said that "Nobody thinks [the Saints] can do it" while pointing out their reasons, such as the defense getting older, the atrocious offensive line, and the weaknesses at head coach and quarterback. That being said, David thinks this is the exact time for this team to prove everyone wrong.

While it'd be great if David was correct with his assessment, it's fair for Saints fans to be negative entering the 2024 campaign. Allen hasn't been a wiz at the head coaching spot and Derek Carr did struggle during his inaugural year at quarterback. The offensive line was abysmal and the defense is getting older.

We'll have to see if the optimists or the pessimists win out here.
