Saints could offer Raiders a deal for Davante Adams they can't refuse
By Ryan Heckman
For a couple of days now, the New Orleans Saints have found themselves in the midst of some pretty significant trade rumors.
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams officially requested a trade on Tuesday, and the obvious connection to quarterback Derek Carr led many to believe the Saints could be near the top of his wish list.
Along with the Saints are of course the New York Jets, with Aaron Rodgers as another one of Adams' former quarterbacks.
Carr and Adams played college ball together at Fresno State and, just recently were teammates in Las Vegas before the Raiders moved on from the veteran quarterback. Now, Adams is at the point in his career where he is fed up with losing culture and wants an opportunity to win a Super Bowl.
Over the first couple of weeks this year, the Saints looked like a legitimate contender. Potentially adding a piece to their offense, like Adams, could get them to reach new heights and ultimately contend at a higher level.
With a trade likely on the horizon sooner rather than later, the Saints are indeed labeled as one of the teams Adams is open to playing for. Some of the teams likely in on Adams include the Jets, Saints, Commanders, Bills, Steelers and Lions, pulling from some of the top reports from insiders like Dan Graziano, Jeremy Fowler, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
The Saints could give the Raiders what they want, plus more, for Davante Adams
The reported asking price for Adams is centered around a second-round pick. For the Saints, that's extremely doable. How about a package like this one:
Considering there may be teams who will want to wait for the price to come down on an Adams trade, assuming the Raiders stand by their asking price of a second-round pick at a minimum, this is the type of deal Vegas couldn't say 'no' to.
Here, the Raiders not only get the second rounder they desire, but also an additional fourth-round pick in 2026 and a young wide receiver in return. Bub Means has only played nine percent of snaps thus far in his rookie season, and might get a bit more of a chance in Las Vegas with Adams out of the picture.
Knowing the Saints are one of Adams' preferred destinations, a trade package like this would be difficult for the Raiders to refuse if they'd also like to do right by the veteran. Who knows if that's in their minds at all, but one would guess they would prefer to do what's best for both parties involved.
When all is said and done, the Saints would have to find a way to restructure Adams' contract because there's no chance they'll want to absorb a $36 million hit next year and in 2026. But, that'll be a problem for a little later on.
