Saints corner Paulson Adebo is entering his contract year with huge expectations
Once you do something well, you create an expectation for yourself. What you’ve shown has become the standard, and your performance must meet that threshold, at a minimum, moving forward.
That’s the experience New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo is facing. Adebo had a really good year in 2023, starting 15 games for the Saints, recording 76 tackles, two forced fumbles, and four interceptions. Now, entering the 2024 season, Adebo is expected to take things to another level.
All offseason, he has been named as a player likely to breakout in 2024. That continued with a recent Bleacher Report piece, where Matt Holder predicted every team’s biggest breakout player for 2024.
Paulson Adebo predicted to be Saints biggest breakout player in 2024
Holder acknowledged that last season could’ve been viewed as a breakout year for Adebo, but since he didn’t receive any postseason recognition, he still fits on the list. Like many others, Holder thinks the fourth-year corner will continue taking steps in the right direction.
"Look for the 2021 third-round pick to continue to build on that strong performance, especially with the addition of pass-rusher Chase Young which should make the entire secondary's life easier, and become a Pro Bowler or All-Pro this fall."
- Matt Holder (Bleacher Report)
While the Saints will be glad if he takes things to another level, Adebo will certainly be happy, because it’s a contract year for him. Spending the first three years of his career in New Orleans, Adebo has improved each season. If that continues in year four, the young cornerback sets himself up for a huge payday.
Unfortunately, the way things are set up with New Orleans’ cap space, the team may not be able to re-sign him. However, the Saints are always performing cap-space magic, so they shouldn’t entirely be counted out. Either way, Adebo will enter 2024 with expectations that he’s never had in the league, and if he can deliver, he will get paid.
