As the New Orleans Saints prepare for the start of the 2024 season, there are a lot of fans who aren’t fond of Derek Carr. There are even more Saints fans hoping Spencer Rattler is the franchise quarterback of the future. The rookie is still entrenched in a battle with Jake Haener for QB2, but there are definitely some fans ready to hand him the keys to the franchise.

A scroll through Saints social media spaces makes that clear. New Orleans cornerback Alontae Taylor recently took that scroll, because he made a post about the quarterback room. A day after the final preseason game, the third-year defensive back posted a tweet that said the fans were tripping, and Derek Carr is the team’s QB1. He went on to say that Rattler has been balling, and been over his feed all day, but he’s still rocking with Carr.

Alontae Taylor throws his support behind Derek Carr as QB1

Fans joked that maybe head coach Dennis Allen made Taylor tweet this, but this was likely Taylor just speaking up for his quarterback. Unfortunately, this show of support only opened the door for more Carr criticism, and more Rattler hype.

Regardless of what fans are saying online, it’s never a great idea to feed into it. Sure, there are some fans who would rather Rattler start than Carr, but everyone knows Carr is the QB1 in New Orleans. Taylor’s reaction to fans made it seem like it’s not as clear as everyone thought, or as if this is actually a conversation in the locker room.

Now, things will only get louder as the season approaches, and once games are actually being played, Carr will have the unfair standard of playing perfect, or fans will start calling for Rattler. It’s great the starter has the support of his teammates, but it’s a losing battle for them to try to change fans’ minds.
