Saints fans are already getting sick of Derek Carr and it's not even Week 1 yet

The New Orleans Saints did something different on Tuesday, holding practice at Yulman Stadium (where Tulane football plays) but it felt like the same old Saints for the fan base.

On one play, second-year quarterback Derek Carr overthrew Chris Olave and the overthrow was met with boos from a fan. As Saints beat reporter Katherine Terrell noted "Even the fans are prepping for the regular season".

Carr joined the Saints in the 2023 offseason after spending nine years with the Raiders. During his rookie year he was coached by Dennis Allen until the Raiders fired him but the two reunited in New Orleans last year.

Carr's first year with the Saints wasn't perfect but he did turn a corner later in the season and started looking like the player fans were expecting him to be. In Carr's defense, it's hard for him to be a great quarterback when his offensive line wasn't able to offer him the protection he needed to get throws off so let's hope the Saints' offseason moves on the o-line will be enough to give Carr the time he needs to complete key passes.

The good news is that when one season ends and another begins, the slate is (mostly) wiped clean. Carr might not have had an amazing inaugural season in New Orleans but there's still time for him to prove that he was worthy of the four-year, $150 million deal he signed with the Saints last year.

More good news is that mere moments after the fan booed Carr for the overthrow, he connected with Olave for a touchdown pass while the team was working on red zone drills. Terrell even noted that there were "no boos there".

The Saints wrap up their preseason with a Sunday afternoon game against the Titans and then have two weeks to prep for their Week 1 opener against the Panthers.
