The Minnesota Vikings recently lost their rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy for the entire season after the first-round pick suffered a meniscus tear. It was unfortunate news for Minnesota and McCarthy, as he was competing with Sam Darnold to be QB1 this season.

Shortly after the news that McCarthy would be sidelined for the year, a tweet circulating social media said the Vikings were inquiring about New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr. The tweet also detailed how the Saints have been impressed with rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler.

This led a lot of people to believe the NFL could see a blockbuster trade between the Vikings and the Saints soon. However, it was all a lie. The tweet came from an account that tweets out fake sports information, and the person it cited as a source is another fake account.

No, the Vikings are not trying to trade for Saints quarterback Derek Carr

This is just the latest reminder that you can’t believe everything you see on the internet. A lot of people are determined to spread false information and take advantage of eager fans. That was the case in this situation. Unfortunately, the tweet gained some traction and was even picked up by reputable sites, furthering spreading the misinformation.

In reality, the Minnesota Vikings are moving forward with Sam Darnold as their top quarterback. Behind Darnold, the Vikings have Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall. They are hoping they have a team good enough to compete in a quickly improving NFC North.

Over in the NFC South, the Saints are sticking with Derek Carr as their top quarterback. While the fake tweet was entirely made up, one thing that was accurate is that Spencer Rattler has been impressive. So has second-year quarterback Jake Haener. However, neither has been good enough to supplant Derek Carr as the starting quarterback.

While Carr will be focused on starting for New Orleans, Darnold will be focused on starting for the Vikings. While they’re doing that, fans must focus on not falling for fake tweets.
