Michael Thomas could face Saints in 2024 if he signs with the team he fits with best

An elite team has been named the best fit for Michael Thomas. If he signs with that team, Thomas won’t have to wait long before playing the New Orleans Saints.

Sports love a good revenge story, especially in the NFL. That’s why the New Orleans Saints are playing the Denver Broncos in a Week 7 primetime game. The NFL wants to play up the Sean Payton returning to New Orleans storyline. Whether there’s bad blood there or not, a sense of revenge will certainly be a part of the game’s marketing plan.

This isn’t going to be the only revenge game that the Saints are involved in next season. Derek Carr will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders for the first time in his career. That game will also be Andrus Peat’s return to New Orleans. Jameis Winston is also set to return to New Orleans with the Cleveland Browns, but honestly, that may be a celebration.

Beyond the games against the Broncos and Raiders, the Saints could have another revenge game on their schedule. That game could be one where Michael Thomas is on the opposing sideline. The veteran receiver hasn’t signed with a team yet, but he has been linked to a team that’s on New Orleans’ schedule.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen, in a recent piece, named the best team fits for the top remaining free agents. For Michael Thomas, Bowen chose the Dallas Cowboys, the team the Saints play in Week 2 of the 2024 season.

Dallas Cowboys named best fit for Michael Thomas

Bowen broke down the Michael Thomas conundrum: he’s still productive when healthy, he just hasn’t been healthy much in the last three years. That’s why Dallas makes sense as an option. With the Cowboys, who have CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks, Thomas could settle in as an elite third option. If he stays healthy, and can recapture the production that made him elite in New Orleans, the Cowboys will be scary.

That could be a problem for a New Orleans team that travels to Dallas in the second week of the season. It’ll be a tough game regardless, but it’d be great to see Michael Thomas bounce back to form.
