First Saints injury report for Week 2 is concerning, as the team prepares for Cowboys
After surprising the NFL world in Week 1 with their performance, the New Orleans Saints are playing in an anticipated game in Week 2. They’re getting their road schedule started with a an afternoon game against the Dallas Cowboys. Both Dallas and New Orleans are coming off dominant Week 1 wins and are hoping to keep momentum rolling.
Unfortunately for New Orleans, they are already pretty banged entering Week 2. That was evident on the first official injury report of the week, where the team revealed several key players are dealing with injuries. The injuries even led to a couple of stars missing Wednesday’s practice.
Saints Week 2 injury report
Player (Position) | Injury | Wednesday’s practice status |
---|---|---|
Jamaal Williams (RB) | Shoulder | Full practice |
Rashid Shaheed (WR) | Finger | Full practice |
Nick Saldiveri (G) | Calf | Full practice |
A.T. Perry (WR) | Hand | Full practice |
Foster Moreau (TE) | Concussion | Limited practice |
Taliese Fuaga (LT) | Back | Limited practice |
Jaylan Ford (LB) | Hamstring | Limited practice |
Dallin Holker (TE) | Ankle | Limited practice |
Marshon Lattimore (CB) | Hip/Hamstring | Did not practice |
Tyrann Mathieu (S) | Heel | Did not practice |
Lucas Patrick (G) | Toe | Did not practice |
D'Marco Jackson (LB) | Calf | Did not practice |
Khalen Saunders (DT) | Calf | Did not practice |
With 13 total names on the list, the two most concerning names are Tyrann Mathieu and Marshon Lattimore, because neither one practiced. Lattimore left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, but since the game was already decided, it was initially downplayed. After the game, Lattimore said he’s fine and would be ready to roll, but him missing practice is definitely a bit worrying.
The combination of Lattimore and Tyrann Mathieu being out is extremely concerning considering the Cowboys are next on the schedule. The Saints have a talented, deep secondary, but they absolutely need Lattimore and Mathieu against CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, and the rest of the Dallas offense.
It is just a Wednesday practice, and considering they are both established veterans, the team is likely being cautious, giving them days off to make sure they’re available for Sunday.
Beyond those two, the other statuses are encouraging, especially for A.T. Perry, who missed the opener with a hand injury. A full practice on Wednesday means he should be on track to make his debut, barring any setback. He, along with all the other names on the list, will certainly be monitored throughout the week.
