The 2024 regular season is finally here, and for most teams, they are currently as healthy as they’re going to be all season. The reality of football is injuries are inevitable, and each week teams will either lose players or players will pick up a nagging injury they must manage throughout the season.

Unfortunately for the New Orleans Saints, they aren’t entering the season as one of the healthiest teams, dealing with several injuries throughout camp. Ryan Ramczyk has already been sidelined for the entire season, and star cornerback Marshon Lattimore missed the majority of training camp with a hip issue. The good news, though, is most of the players seem to be getting back towards 100% as the regular season arrives.

That was evident in New Orleans first injury report of the season. Following Wednesday’s practice, the Saints released the first edition of their Week 1 injury report, and while there were eight players on the list, fans should be encouraged.

Going off names and positions alone, this would be an incredibly concerning injury report, especially for the linebacker position— two starting linebackers and two depth linebackers are listed. However, the individual statuses for Wednesday’s practice gives a more promising outlook.

Typically, if a player is practicing, in any fashion, on a Wednesday, they have a pretty good chance of playing. So for Pete Werner, who had a full practice, and Willie Gay Jr., Marshon Lattimore, and Nick Saldiveri, who had limited practices, they’re in a pretty good spot.

Things aren’t looking so bright for the four players who didn’t practice. However, it was already reported Khalen Saunders would miss a couple of weeks, and additionally, none of the four players who missed Wednesday’s practice are starters. That’s not to say their possible absences wouldn’t be important, but they wouldn’t be as tough for the Saints to overcome if they were starters.

Ultimately, it’s still pretty early in the game week. New Orleans has a few more practices to get through before the team determines any game statuses, and things can still change up until kickoff.
