Derek Carr and the Saints offense had the best start to a season a team could have
No one could have predicted the New Orleans Saints success in the first two weeks of the 2024 season. Going into the year, expectations were pretty low for Derek Carr, and he has quickly exceeded them all, playing the best football of his career.
Carr and the offense got off to such a hot start that the Saints first 15 drives with Derek Carr at the helm ended with 15 scores. That is impressive for any quarterback, especially one in a new offensive system.
Here are the 15 drives where Derek Carr was at quarterback.
Week 1 vs. the Carolina Panthers
- Touchdown- 5 plays, 76 yards
- Field Goal- 4 plays, 1 yard
- Touchdown- 11 plays, 79 yards
- Field Goal- 9 plays, 48 yards
- Field Goal- 7 plays, 9 yards
- Touchdown- 1 play, 16 yards
- Touchdown- 9 plays, 57 yards
- Field Goal- 12 plays, 43 yards
- Touchdown- 2 plays, 36 yards
Week 2 at the Dallas Cowboys
- Touchdown- 7 plays, 80 yards
- Touchdown- 1 play, 70 yards
- Touchdown- 4 plays, 70 yards
- Touchdown- 11 plays, 70 yards
- Touchdown- 3 plays, 20 yards
- Touchdown- 13 plays, 70 yards
This offense has been simply incredible under Klint Kubiak, as he is getting the best out of every position on the field. On those 15 drives, 11 of them were touchdowns. The offense has been able to convert, seemingly at will, against opposing defenses. On those 11 touchdown drives, the average length of them were 58.5 yards, moving the ball without much difficulty.
There were concerns heading into Dallas as the Panthers aren’t a great team, but those were shattered as the Saints dominated the Cowboys from start to finish. Now, it’s up to New Orleans to keep up this momentum. There is no denying that the Saints have a working system and plenty of talent, they just have to be able to keep this going. With this hot offense, New Orleans could surprise a lot of teams in the NFL this year.
