Head coach Dennis Allen is feeling like Kendrick Lamar after the Saints’ hot start

It’s been a great year for rap artist Kendrick Lamar, and through two weeks, it’s been a great season for the New Orleans Saints. According to New Orleans’ head coach, both Lamar and the Saints can relate to each other. He made that clear after the team’s impressive 44-19 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Going into the Week 2 matchup, no one gave the Saints a chance. Although they were coming off a 47-10 win in Week 1, all the experts had New Orleans falling to Dallas. The Saints didn’t care, though, as they went into AT&T Stadium and dominated the Cowboys for 60 minutes.

Following the game, Allen addressed the team in the locker room, praising them for taking care of business. He ended his speech by referencing Kendrick Lamar, saying, “sometimes you just gotta [expletive] pop out and show em!” Naturally, the team erupted.

Allen is paraphrasing lyrics from Lamar’s hit song, “Not Like Us,” where the artist dissed fellow artist Drake, and referred to himself as a certified boogeyman, because he’ll up the score with anybody. Right now, uping the score is exactly what New Orleans is doing.

The Saints have scored over 40 points in each of their first two games this season, clearly establishing themselves as the best offense this season. They’ve also had an equally dominant defense that has been shutting opposing teams down. New Orleans definitely popped out and changed its narrative.

The Saints are hoping to keep this up, because they’re trying to get to where Lamar is already booked: Super Bowl 59. During Week 1, Lamar announced he is the halftime act for this season’s Super Bowl, which is being held in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome.

The Saints don’t want to watch two other teams playing in the biggest game in their stadium; they want to be there. They have to keep popping out and showing out to make that happen.
