Colin Cowherd has a prediction that every Saints fan can get onboard with
The New Orleans Saints found themselves in a situation they hadn't been in for a long time when Sean Payton decided to step away from coaching in early 2022. They decided to promote defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and give him a second shot at being a head coach.
As some might recall, Allen was the head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2014. He was canned by the Raiders early in the 2014 season after an 0-4 start but time had passed since his firing in Oakland and when the Saints needed someone to take over so the promotion made sense.
Two seasons into the Allen experiment, however, and Saints fans are over it and have been since the first year. The fans would not be sad at all if the 2024 season was Allen's last as the Saints head coach and they're really going to enjoy what Colin Cowherd predicted on his show earlier this week.
Cowherd pegs Dennis Allen as the first coach to be fired this season
In his bold predictions segment, Cowherd said that he thinks Allen will be the first head coach to be let go by his team this upcoming season. He noted that he thinks the Saints are the worst team in the NFC South (yes, somehow even worse than the Panthers) and that he doesn't "see the juice offensively".
Now, we all know that Cowherd is a talking head for a reason. He says things to rile people up and often succeeds at doing so. Be that as it may, Saints fans actually agree with him on some of the points he made during this segment. Allen has not been the right man for the job in New Orleans and it'd be nice if the team could hit the reset button at the head coach spot.
While Saints fans wouldn't be sad about seeing the team move on from Allen, the odds of him being the first head coach to be let go are low. Somehow this offseason led to a lot of people thinking the Saints are going to be a dumpster fire this year and it's been confusing. The team managed to go 9-8 last year even with all of the problems they had so what's to stop them from posting a winning record again in 2024?
Gotta love the offseason content.
